According to sources, Congress President Rahul Gandhi may take the responsibility of the defeat and resign from the post.
New Delhi| After the party tanked at the ballot box across the country, the top decision making the body of the Congress party is meeting in Delhi today. The Congress Working Committee or CWC will discuss and introspect on the party’s dismal performance in the recently concluded 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The UPA coalition headed by Congress won only 82 seats with Congress alone winning only 52 seats. With this number, for the second time in a row, the principal opposition party will not be getting the position of leader of opposition in the parliament. In as many as 18 states, the Congress drew blank. In the Hindi heartland states, where the party had gained big in the last assembly elections, it had to face a shameful defeat.
According to sources, Congress President Rahul Gandhi may take the responsibility of the defeat and resign from the post. Whether the CWC accepts the resignation or not is yet to be known.
