New Delhi | Election Commission has sought a response from the Information and Broadcast Ministry on the launch of NaMo TV ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
NaMo TV, previously called Content TV, is named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it broadcasts Modi’s election campaign rallies, live or highlights from the previous ones.
Congress and AAP have opposed to this, demanding a response as to why the channel was launched, despite Model Code of Conduct coming into force.
Aam Aadmi Party also wrote a letter to the EC which stated that the channel went against the principle of creating a level playing field for all parties, a prerequisite for elections according to Supreme Court of India and the Election Commission of India.
“If no permission sought by EC then what action has been taken in this regard?” it asked.
The Congress also wrote to the EC, accusing the Modi government that the channel is “solely to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and BJP for promoting and advertising the achievements of the government”.
NaMo TV was launched on March 31, its logo consists of a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
