New Delhi | The Interpol on Thursday issued a Red corner notice against fugitive absconder and co-accused in the 3,000 crores Punjab National Bank financial scam Mehul Choksi on request of the Central Beaureu of Investigation.
The Notice comes 6 months after the probing agency CBI asked Interpol to issue a red corner notice against the Choksi. The international organisation has already issued an RCN against his nephew Nirav Modi.
Earlier Mehul Choksi had moved the special CBI court for cancellation of a non-bailable warrant against him claiming he has reasons to believe that his return to India might endanger his life. He also cited âthe recent trend of mob lynchingâ due to which he couldnât travel to India.
The CBI in its reply to Interpol assured that Choksi was an âeconomic offenderâ, and would be provided with the necessary protection.
