Supreme Court limits use of firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali

New Delhi | The Supreme Court on Tuesday announced its verdict rejecting to impose a complete ban on sale and use of firecrackers.

The Apex court bench of AK Sikri and Ashok Bushan in its judgement has also announced a complete ban on the online sale of crackers and has also put a restraint on the E-commerce sites for selling them.

The top court in its judgement has also put a limitation on the use of firecrackers. According to the judgement, firecrackers will only be allowed from 8 pm to 10 pm for only 2 hours while on Christmas and New years eve firecrackers will be allowed from 11:45 pm to 12:15 am.”Only firecrackers with reduced emission and decibel levels will be permitted during all festivals,” added the top court.

The bench has also ordered the Central Pollution Control Board to monitor air quality 7 days before and 7 days after Diwali. Responding to the verdict Vijay Panjwani, the lawyer for Central Pollution Control Board told media, “Supreme Court’s orders are not very strict. We were expecting a complete ban but that has not happened. Crackers will be allowed but there is a time restriction as it will be allowed between 8 pm to 10 pm.”
