Newly appointed Bengaluru deputy mayor dies at 44

Bangalore | The newly appointed deputy mayor of Bengaluru’s Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Rameela Umashankar on Friday died due to cardiac arrest at the age of 44.

Umashankar was appointed the deputy mayor of the BBMP on 28, September 2018 after being elected from the Kaveripura ward of Karnataka. She was the member of the Janata Dal (Secular).

Expressing condolence over the demise of Umashankar, Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy wrote on Twitter, “Deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Deputy Mayor Rameela Umashankar. She had actively participated with us at the Namma Metro flagging off event just yesterday. She was a dedicated social worker and committed party worker. It’s shocking to learn that she is no more with us.”
