Bombay HC rejects plea challenging discharge of DG Vanzara and other police officials in Sohrabuddin fake encounters case

Mumbai | The Bombay High Court on Monday dismissed the petitions challenging the discharge of DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian, Dinesh Amin in connection with 2005 Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case.

The Court was hearing review applications filed by Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin and CBI challenging the discharge of former Gujarat DIG D G Vanzara and IPS officers Dinesh M N, Rajkumar Pandiyan, Rajasthan Police constable Dalpat Singh Rathod and Gujarat Police officer N K Amin announced by the trial court.

In an alleged fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and his wife Kausarbi in November 2005 and their aide Tulsiram Prajapati in 2006, the CBI had booked five officials including 33 others. After the Supreme Court order, the trail of the case was shifted to a Mumbai Special Court from Gujarat which released 15 accused including BJP President Amit Shah and other police officials.

According to the CBI charge sheet Sohrabuddin, a suspected gangster along with his wife were abducted by the Gujarat ATS and Rajasthan Police near Hyderabad and was later killed in November 2005. CBI further claimed that Prajapati who was an eyewitness to this incident was later killed in a staged encounter by the Rajasthan police in 2006.
