JNU student leader Umar Khalid shot by unidentified man, escapes unharmed

New Delhi | Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid was shot by an unidentified man near the Constitutional Club in Delhi on Monday.

Khalid was present at the venue to attend an event named ‘Khauff Se Azaadi’, put together by an organisation named ‘United Against Hate’. Khalid who escaped unharmed speaking to the media after the attack said, “There is an atmosphere of fear in the country, and anybody who speaks against the government is threatened,” he said after the attack.”


According to an eyewitness,”There was an event, Umar Khalid accompanied us. We were at a tea stall when a man in white shirt came,pushed&opened fire at him. Khalid lost his balance,fell down&bullet missed him. We tried to catch the man. He fired aerial shots, pistol slipped off his hands, he fled.”

The Ph.D. student had earlier filed a complaint alleging death threat from Ravi Pujari gang.
