Four youths allegedly stalked I&B Minister Smriti Irani when she was returning to her official residence from the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
A year after the Union Minister Smriti Irani’s stalking incident took place, the Delhi police filed a charge sheet against four people. A news agency reported that the accused have been booked for stalking, intention to insult the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation.
The incident happened when I&B Minister Smriti Irani was returning to her official residence in Delhi from the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The Delhi police officials have revealed that the four accused are students studying in Ram Lal Anand College which comes under Delhi University. Reportedly, all the four accused were under the influence of alcohol at the time. The students also hurled “unwanted” words and made inappropriate gestures. However, they were soon caught as Smriti Irani’s car reached near Myanmar Embassy in Lutyens’ Zone. The accused, later, were released on bail.
One of the accused later issued an apology to the minister saying he and his friends did not know that it was Smriti Irani’s car. He confessed that they were making funny videos for a social media site and did not know that Union Minister Smriti Irani was in the car they overtook. “We would not have done this if we knew that it was Smriti Irani’s car,” the accused told a news agency.
