Siddaramaiah slams Karnataka BJP for superstition tweet but also takes a subtle dig at Smriti Irani

TestHostEntry

Siddaramaiah warned, “And if you spread #FakeNews about our Anti-Superstition Law, I&B Minister Smriti Irani will hit you with her circular!”

Ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled in May this year, the BJP and Congress are fighting out the social media battle too. Both the parties have often engaged in a twitter war. In a recent incident, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has slammed the BJP for its tweet on Superstition. But the twist is he has also cleverly taken a dig at Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani with this.

The Karnataka’s BJP unit had shared a picture of CM Siddarmaiah on its twitter handle. In the picture, Siddaramaiah was seen holding a lemon in hand while campaigning during a roadshow. The BJP in its tweet said, “Campaigns with a lemon in hand, but brings in Anti Superstitions Bill to demean and criminalise Hindu traditions.” It further said that Hypocrisy’s name is Siddaramaiah.

However, Siddaramaiah quickly hit back at the BJP. Clarifying the reason behind holding a lemon in hand he said that whenever one visits any village, the people welcome with the lemons. “That this is not a superstition is known to all Kannadigas,” Karnataka CM said. Further slamming the BJP, he said that the Anti-superstition bill passed by Karnataka legislature has become a full-fledged law and it does not demean any Hindu tradition.

Further advising the BJP workers, he said, “Learn about Karnataka before tweeting young fellows.”

However, he did not stop there, he took the chance to draw a jibe at Minister of information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani over her fake news circular which she had to roll back after it backfired. Siddaramaiah warned, “And if you spread #FakeNews about our Anti-Superstition Law criminalising or demeaning Hindu traditions, I&B Minister Smriti Irani will hit you with her circular!”

Definitely, the Karnataka Assembly Election will be a defining contest between BJP and Congress but the social media war between two parties is creating apt hype for it.
