Patna: Tejashwi Yadav is the political heir apparent of RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) chairman Lalu Yadav, and the party made it official Friday evening by appointing him as the party’s national agenda setter.
Tejashwi Yadav, 32, will take all policy decisions in the future, according to a resolution passed by RJD leaders and MLAs on Tuesday evening. This is a big step on the part of the party ahead of an all-party meeting in the state on a caste-based census.
Former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Yadav and Rabari Devi, as well as their daughter Misa Bharti, a Rajya Sabha MP, and older son Tej Pratap Yadav, were present for Tejashwi Yadav’s anointing.
The resolution was passed at the RJD legislature party meeting, which was presided over by Lalu Yadav.
Until now, every Rajya Sabha or Legislative Council list stated that candidates were chosen “in conjunction with Tejashwi Yadav” by RJD chief Lalu Yadav. Tejashwi now has the authority to make policy decisions that are not subject to his father’s approval.
“Tejashwi has been given unanimous authority by our MLAs to make decisions on our agenda. We shall continue to follow the leadership’s advise “Uday Narayan Choudhary, a prominent RJD leader, said.
RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari urged this week that Lalu Yadav, who has been ill for some time, hand over power to Tejashwi Yadav, his younger son and the most politically skilled of his offspring. During the 2020 Bihar election, Tejashwi established himself as a force to be reckoned with, leading the opposition alliance to a solid tally but falling short of a majority.
According to sources, Lalu Yadav decided to divide his responsibilities in order to put an end to speculation over who will succeed him as the leader.
Tej Pratap, Tejashwi’s older brother, has been accused of resenting his younger brother’s rapid climb to the top of the party their father founded.
He disputed that the adjustment had caused a schism in the party. “Nobody is irritated. Everyone is in agreement with our choice “The leader stated.
However, Tej Pratap, a former state minister, appeared to be unconcerned about the revelation at yesterday’s meeting.
Tejashwi Yadav is a driving force behind the drive in Bihar for a caste-based census, which the ruling BJP opposes.
Nitish Kumar, pushed by Tejashwi Yadav, convened an all-party meeting as a first step toward such a census, well aware of the BJP’s opposition.
The BJP, torn between the demands of its Bihar branch and the central leadership’s adamant opposition to any caste-based count, which the party sees as divisive, agreed to the meeting in the end.
