It is difficult to carry out tough reforms in India as there is “too much of democracy”, news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant as saying on Tuesday, prompting the latter to claim that he had been misquoted. According to the PTI report, Kant at a virtual event organised by Swarajya magazine, said that for the first time the Centre has carried out hard reforms across sectors, including mining, coal, labour, agriculture, and the next wave of reforms must be pushed by the states. However, Kant later tweeted to say that he had been misquoted. “I was speaking about MEIS scheme & resources being spread thin & need for creating global champions in manufacturing sector,” he said.
