Uddhav Thackeray Calls Urgent Meeting Of Shiv Sena Members Amid Cross Voting

Maharashtra Election Live: 21 MLAs and Shinde missing, rebellion in Shiv Sena?

Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray today requested an urgent meeting of Shiv Sena MLAs to assess unpredicted loss amid reports of Eknath Shinde and other MLAs gone out of reach.

While Congress leaders met at party official Balasaheb Thoratโ€™s residence in Mumbai to assess the unpredicted loss it faced on Monday.

The Thackeray-led Shiv Sena allegiance is currently under siege as MLAs go missing. Maharashtra officials and 21 other MLAs reportedly moved to the Meridian hotel in Surat signalling a warning threat to the Shiv Sena strong hold vote-bank.

Leaders Shinde, Palghar MLA Srinivas Vanga, Aligarh Legislator Mahendra Dalvi and Bhiwandi official Shantaram More are reportedly โ€œunreachableโ€ setting off bells of rebellion in the Sena.

Earlier this Monday, Sena faced a major setback as they lost five legislative council seats to the BJP out of 10 up for grabs. The Congress and the Sena fear an overturn as candidate Chandrakant Handore, the party favourite did not sail through to victory.

โ€œEknath Shinde was with us at the hotel and was trying to ensure MVA candidateโ€™s victory. We cannot say anything till we speak to him,โ€ Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut commented on the issue.

Raut who fears a possible landslide of support in the same light as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan commented further, โ€ Shiv Sena is a party of loyalists. We wonโ€™t let that happen,โ€.

Key leader Shinde will reportedly address the media at noon. Shindeโ€™s sudden disappearance has set off alarms in the state.

The earth under the MVA allegiance (Shiv Sena, NCP & Congress) tilted in favour of the BJP on Monday as it secured all five seats it contested for in the Maharashtra Legislative Council election for 10 seats.

Congress managed to conquer only one seat as Shiv Sena and NCP bagged two seats each.
