โ€œWas Never Our Memberโ€: BJP Distances Itself From Caught LeT Terrorist, Calls For NIA Probe

BJP

After uproar over the Bharatiya Janata Partyโ€™s (BJP) alleged link with captured Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Talib Hussain, the saffron party has now distanced itself from him and denied that he had ever been a member of the partyโ€™s Jammu and Kashmir unit.

Along with another LeT militant, Talib Hussain was arrested in Reasi district on Sunday. Soon after his arrest, allegations surfaced that Talib was member of the saffron party and in fact headed the IT cell of the BJPโ€™s Minority Morcha in Jammu.

The BJP had initially argued that Talib had resigned from the BJP in May this year after being a member for only 18 days. However, J&K BJP Chief Ravinder Raina has now said that Talib was never directly associated with the party in any capacity.

โ€œTalib Hussain wasnโ€™t even a member of the BJP. He used to visit BJP office in the garb of journalist,โ€ Raina was quoted as saying by India Today.

The J&K BJP Chief also alleged that top BJP leaders and office-holders were on Hussainโ€™s hit-list, seeking a probe by central anti-terror agency NIA.

โ€œTalib Hussain did recce of my office. He sent videos of my office to his Pakistani handlers. He used to meet BJP leaders by posing as a journalist. We demand NIA probe,โ€ Raina said.

Minority Morcha Chief Sheikh Bashir has been issued a show-cause notice by the party, and heโ€™s been asked to  reply within 48 hours, Rain said. โ€œHe [Bashir]doesnโ€™t have the authority to make any appointment. Every appointment in the party is made by the President,โ€ Raina added.

Congress Calls BJPโ€™s Nationalism โ€˜Fakeโ€™, Alleges Links With Udaipur Killer

The Congress today said โ€œThese are not simple coincidencesโ€ and listed other BJP functionaries who,  alleged, were โ€œcaught participating at the behest of Pakistani agencies in terrorism and espionageโ€.

New Delhi: The Congress today targeted the Bhartiya Janata Party over its alleged links with an accused in the gruesome Udaipur murder and a captured Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, saying it is shocking that a โ€œparty that loses no opportunity to preach to Indians about nationalismโ€ has members โ€œdeeply implicated in violent anti-national activitiesโ€.

The party appealed to the people to see โ€œthrough the BJPโ€™s fake nationalism and its disturbing willingness to associate with anti-national forcesโ€.

Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera said โ€œWhat kind of an ideology finds a place for both Nupur Sharma and Riyaz Attari? And accommodates radicals like Talib Hussain? Is the BJP inspired by the alliance between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League in which extremists of all religions banded together to prevent nationalist forces like the Congress to come to power?.โ€

The statement comes after it was found that a wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba, captured in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday, was an active member of the saffron party and the partyโ€™s Minority Morcha social media in charge in Jammu.

The BJP has responded by blaming the partyโ€™s online membership drive, through which people are joining without a background check.

In the Udaipur case, Congress had pointed to media reports and social media posts to allege that one of the main accused in the gruesome murder is a โ€œBJP memberโ€.

Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, was brutally murdered, shortly after he put up an online post in support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma, whose remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a live TV debate had sparked a massive row.

The BJP has vehemently denied any connection with the killers of Kanhaiya Lal.

โ€œWe have no links to either of the accused,โ€ Sadiq Khan, the chief of the BJPโ€™s minority wing in Rajasthan, said during an interaction with the media, stressing that the killing was a failure of the Congress government in the state.

The Congress today said โ€œThese are not simple coincidencesโ€ and listed other BJP functionaries who,  alleged, were โ€œcaught participating at the behest of Pakistani agencies in terrorism and espionageโ€.

Around two years ago  โ€œFormer BJP leader and ex-sarpanch Tariq Ahmad Mir was arrested two years ago for procuring weapons for Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu. Naveed Babu had previously been arrested with DSP Davinder Singh who had himself been accused of supplying weapons to terrorists.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has confirmed that Mir is an associate of Davinder Singhโ€™s. The truth would have come out had the Davinder Singh inquiry been carried through to its conclusion, but it was halted midway,โ€ the party alleged.

The Grand Old Party further alleged โ€œIn 2017, the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested the BJP IT Cell member Dhruv Saxena along with 10 accomplices for spying for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Directorate, including by setting up an illegal telephone exchange that allowed their handlers in Pakistan to impersonate Indian Army officials and collect national security information. A picture of Saxena with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also went viral.โ€

In 2017, it said, a special NIA court sentenced Assam BJP leader Niranjan Hojai to life imprisonment for participating in a โ‚น 1,000 crore scam to divert government funds to support a militant group.
