UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Steps Down

According to BBC, The leadership polls are scheduled over the summer and the victor will replace Mr.Boris Johnson at the partyโ€™s yearly conference in early October.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday resigned after days of defections plunged the Conservative Party-led government into a deeper political turmoil.

In his address to the nation, Johnson said he will serve as the PM until a new leader is appointed.

Johnson also said he was immensely proud of his achievements. According to AP the decision to step down comes after one of his closest allies Treasury Chief Nadhim Zahawi suggested him to resign for the good of the UK.

โ€œIt is clearly the will of the parliamentary Conservative party that there should be a new leader of that party, and therefore a new prime minister,โ€ Mr. Johnson added.

The English PM  outside 10 Downing Street further said, he was โ€œsadโ€ฆ to be giving up the best job in the worldโ€ and justified fighting on in the final hours to deliver the mandate he won in a general election in December 2019.

According to BBC, The leadership polls are scheduled over the summer and the victor will replace Mr.Boris Johnson at the partyโ€™s yearly conference in early October.

In the frenzied hours building up to Mr.Johnsonโ€™s announcement, opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer had welcomed his impending departure.

โ€œA proper change of governmentโ€ was needed and demanded a no-confidence vote in parliament, potentially triggering a general election, rather than Mr. Johnson โ€œclinging on for months and monthsโ€, Mr. Starmer said.

Even while eyeing the exit, Mr. Johnson on Thursday sought to steady the ship with several appointments to replace the departed members of the cabinet.

According to reports, there were cries of โ€œbye, Borisโ€ which echoed around the chamber at the end of his speech.

โ€˜Betrayed People Of Biharโ€™: BJP Slams Nitish Kumar As He Joins Mahagathbandhan

BJP slams Nitish Kumar
The tension between the two parties hit breakpoint over Nitish Kumarโ€™s concerns that Union Minister Amit Shah is trying to split the JDU.

Mumbai: The Bihar unit of the BJP accused Nitish Kumar of betraying the stateโ€™s citizens when he abruptly changed sides. Sanjay Jaiswal, the head of the Bihar BJP, declared during a press conference in Patna that the people of Bihar will โ€œnever forgiveโ€ Nitish Kumar.

โ€œWe fought the 2020 polls together under NDA, the mandate was for JD(U) and BJP. We won more seats, despite that Nitish Kumar was made the Chief Minister. Whatever happened today is a betrayal of Biharโ€™s people & the BJP,โ€ Mr Jaiswal said.

At 4 oโ€™clock, Mr. Kumar will meet with the Governor after breaking off his partnership with the BJP and accusing them of trying to undermine his party. Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and other party officials who support him will accompany him, according to reports.

Giriraj Singh, a BJP Union minister and the partyโ€™s prominent figure in Bihar, earlier today told NDTV that his party adhered to coalition dharma and that Nitish Kumar made the decision to dissolve the party.

โ€œWe have always followed the dharma of coalition and maintained the dignity of the alliance, when we had 63 MLAs, he had 36, we made him the Chief Minister. Today Nitish seems to be shopping,โ€ Mr. Singh said.

Biharโ€™s top BJP officials are travelling to Patna to talk about the ramifications of the split. Sushil Kumar Modi and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will be among them. Before deciding to leave the BJP for good a second time, Nitish Kumar met with his MLAs. Late this afternoon, he met with the Governor to submit his resignation. He told his MLAs of his resignation and announced it to the media after seeing the Governor. โ€œIโ€™ve resigned, and Iโ€™ve informed my MLAs about this,โ€ he said to the media after seeing the Governor.

Concerns raised by Nitish Kumar that Union Minister Amit Shah is obstinately trying to separate the Janata Dal led to a breaking point in the tension between the two parties.
