At a recent public event at Kanpur, the President Shri Ram Nath Kovind told the gathered audience that even though he earns a salary of Rs. 5 lakh pm, he however pays income tax thereon at Rs. 2.75 lakhs pm. He therefore said that his personal savings are fewer than those of most others in public service and that even teachers who were seated in the audience earn much more than him. We do not know the reasons for the President to make such a statement, but it got the Twitteratii busy. In this episode of the Business Tit-Bits, our Business Editor Mr Akhilesh Bhargava shares his take on the matter.
