Maharashtra Govt To transfer Accounts From Axis Bank To Govt Banks: Ajit Pawar

The Fadnavis-led Maha state govt had assigned the management of almost 2 lakh salary accounts to Axis bank, where his wife holds a top position.

New Delhi| Axis bank, one of the top private banks is likely to lose one of its biggest customers, the Maharashtra government. Axis bank handles salary accounts of the state employees and of the Mumbai Police department.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has confirmed the transfer managing of the salary accounts to a public sector bank. The final decision came out today in the parliament.

In December 2019, Amruta Fadnavis, wife of former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, challenged the Shiv Sena leadership in the state through her tweets after which the idea of pulling out salary accounts of the state employees and the Mumbai Police from Axis Bank had gained currency.

Rajesh Dahiya, Executive Director of Axis Bank, said Axis Bank has had a relationship with the state government and the Mumbai Police for over 15 years and its customers across the state are satisfied with the services provided.

“We have banking relations with the government and Mum-bai Police for over 15 years now. We are also empanelled with the police departments of many states. We have existing relationships with Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Border Security force, ITBP, CISF and CRPF among others. We are confident that the police, armed forces and government departments are satisfied with the services of the bank,” he added.

The Fadnavis-led Maha state government had assigned the management of almost 2 lakh salary accounts to Axis bank, the overall annual salary bill is over 11,000 crores, Free Press Journal reported.
