Sonu Sood responds to IT raids says every rupee awaiting to save a life

Mumbai: Actor Sonu Sood who is on the radar of Income Tax Department from past four days has tweeted saying that he was busy attending guests and that every rupee in his foundation was “awaiting its turn to save a life.”

“You don’t always have to tell your side of the story. Time will,” the actor said in a statement he tweeted along with a couplet in Hindu, loosely translated as – “even the most difficult path can seem easy with the goodwill of every Indian.” he tweeted.

“Every rupee in my foundation is awaiting its turn to save a precious life and reach the needy. In addition, on many occasions, I have encouraged brands to donate my endorsement fees for humanitarian causes too, which keeps us going,” the actor wrote.

“I have been busy attending to a few guests hence was unable to be at your service for the last four days. Here I am back again in all humility. At your humble service, for life,” he further added.

Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal supported Sonu’s statement by tweeting More power to u Sonu ji. U are a hero to millions of Indians.

The 48-year-old actor, whose philanthropic efforts during the Covid crisis won huge praise, was raided for four days in a row by the Income Tax department, which alleges that he evaded taxes worth over ₹ 20 crore.

Sonu Sood’s office was raided by the IT department on Wednesday. Also a company in Lucknow linked to him was raided according to sources. The reason is said to be tampering in the books of account.

The tax raid was carried out days after the actor was declared the brand ambassador for Arvind Kejriwal’s government’s mentorship programme for school students in the capital in a high profile meeting. Sonu Sood had later denied any plans for a political debut with Mr Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

AAP had also announced that the Delhi government would soon come up with “the most progressive” film policy in the country that would provide a massive boost to the entertainment industry.  Both Kejriwal and Sood had then said that no discussions around politics were held during their meeting.

Sonu’s house was also raided by IT department in the past in 2012. At that time the IT department had raided Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Nigam and Sonu Sood’s house after red flags were raised regarding their acquisitions. Sood’s house was raided then after the actor had brought a property worth Rs 30 crores.
