India Records 3.23 Lakh COVID-19 Cases And 2,771 Deaths In 24 Hours

This is the sixth consecutive day when the country is reporting over 3 lakh COVID-19 cases with a steep rise in deaths as well.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state even in the second wave and added 48,700 cases and 524 deaths. Although Mumbai has been witnessing a slight dip, the overall situation in the state continues to remain grim.

The national capital city of Delhi became the worst affected city in the country with a positivity rate well above 20%. It recorded 20,201 positive cases and 380 deaths.

States with a relatively poor health infrastructure like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have also reported a huge spike, coupled with horrifying scenes from several crematoriums and how the on-ground reality isn’t being captured in government data.

Meanwhile, Karnataka became the latest state to head for a complete lockdown from April 27 to May 12 with only essential services allowed to operate. Its capital Bangalore alone reported 16500 cases of the 30000 cases in the entire state.
