Kerala Chief Minister Pinaryi Vijayan on Thursday announced a total lockdown in the state from May 8 to May 16, after a huge spike in cases. A detailed SOP is expected to be issued soon.
The entire State of Kerala will be under lockdown from 6am on 8 May to 16 May. This is in the background of a strong 2nd wave of #COVID19.

The lockdown comes after it recorded 41,953 new infections in the last 24 hours, the highest since the outbreak last year. The test positivity rate has reached 25.69% – an all-time high, while the active caseload reached 375,658. Kerala is in at the third spot in terms of total cases, after Maharashtra and Karnataka
According to TOI, the health department has asked the state government to go for a total lockdown since the daily tally of coronavirus cases had crossed 30000, and that there was no other alternative.

CM Vijayan recently wrote to PM Modi, seeking more liquid medical oxygen and vaccines.

The government has also decided to convert hostels, lodges, and empty offices as first-line treatment centres to meet the surge of patients. It also tweaked the protocol to only allow admission to patients in need of urgent medical care. The CM had also sought the help of NRIs to tide over the grave situation. The state has about 25 lakh people working abroad and 70% of them are in West Asian countries.
Kerala has so far vaccinated 74 lakh people, almost 20 percent of its 3.25 crore population. The Union Health Ministry and PM had recently lauded its zero wastage of vaccines.
