New Delhi: India reported 2,71,202 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marginally higher than Saturday’s infections, data updated by the Union Ministry of Health showed on Sunday morning. The positivity rate was also lower at 16.28 per cent from 16.66 per cent. The country also recorded 314 Covid-19 related fatalities in the last 24 hours, which have taken the death toll to 4,86,066. As many as 1,38,331 people recovered from the infection and the number of active cases now stand at 15,50,377. A total of 7,743 Omicron cases have been detected so far across the country—an increase of 28.17 per cent since Saturday.
Delhi on Saturday reported 20,718 fresh Covid-19 cases, nearly 4,000 less than the previous day’s tally, according to the Delhi state health bulletin. The number of tests conducted dropped further on Saturday with a total of 67,624 tests of which 20 per cent were the less accurate rapid antigen tests.The test positivity rate remained the same as the previous day at 30.64 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) Saturday extended the ban on physical rallies and roadshows for the upcoming assembly elections across five states to January 22 but granted relaxation to parties to conduct indoor meetings with maximum 300 persons or 50% of the capacity of the hall. Also, Mumbai recorded a further dip in the number of daily Covid-19 cases on Saturday, recording 10,661 cases as against the 11,317 infections it registered on Friday. In other news, Karnataka on Saturday reported 32,793 new Covid1-9 cases, including 22,284 in Bengaluru and seven deaths. The positivity rate in the last 24 hours was 15 per cent.
