President Zelenskyy Accuses Russia Of Seeking War Continuation

President Zelenskyy Accuses Russia

The two nations have not yet held a truce and the talks in Istanbul did not yield any result

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of wanting to try to continue its invasion. He also accused that their neighbour Russia was not interested in engaging in peace talks. This is in spite of a push from the USA to strive for ceasefire.

The US President Trump called the Presidents from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides on Monday. Officials from both the nations had met earlier to hold talks for peace in Istanbul on Friday. These direct talks came for the first time ever since the war had begun.

The two nations have not yet held a truce and the talks in Istanbul did not yield any result. Zelenskyy accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of having sent “empty heads” to the table for negotiation.

On Tuesday, he put a post on Telegram. He wrote, “It is obvious that Russia is trying to buy time in order to continue its war and occupation.”

He added, “We are working with partners to put pressure on the Russians to behave differently.”

The Ukrainian government has sent an offer for a decisive 30-day ceasefire. But Moscow has rejected the offer effectively, by putting forward practically hard terms on Kyiv.

President Zelenskyy had earlier proposed a direct in-person meeting with Russian President Putin. But Russia’s top leader has rejected the offer.

Zelenskyy had also said, “Ukraine is ready for any negotiation format that delivers results. And if Russia continues to put forward unrealistic conditions and undermine progress, there must be tough consequences,”

Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine will begin negotiations for ceasefire “immediately”. No information was given about when or where the talks might take place.

Mikhailo Podoliak, who is a senior adviser to Zelenskyy wrote on X, “The status quo has not changed.”

According to Trump, the talks were very productive. Zelenskyy has said Russia has a poor approach towards peace talks.

Ukraine and Europe have called on the US to put sanctions on Russia.

Earlier Putin had expressed his support for India after the Pahalgam attack.
