Dismiss Police Personnel Involved In Serious Crime Says Yogi After Manish Gupta Case

Kanpur : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday issued directions to dismiss police officers involved in serious crimes. He says identify officers involved in crimes, collect evidence against them and dismiss them as per rules. Yogi is facing heat from opposition over the mysterious death of a Kanpur-based businessman which involves six cops.

“Tainted personnel will not be deputed to important positions in the field,” the order further stated. “Recently there have been complaints of some police officers/personnel indulging in illegal activities. The Chief Minister has said that this is not acceptable at all,” the order said.

These directions are issued a day after mysterious death of Kanpur Businessman Manish Gupta.

Gupta’s family has cemented his body on Thursday. The last rites were performed after much police persuasion as the family insisted they will not conduct the last rites until justice was done.

“Six police personnel have been suspended for negligence during a raid at a hotel room, in which a man was injured. He was later hospitalized but succumbed to injuries. The matter to be probed by SP North,” said Gorakhpur Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada.

As per the post mortem report, businessman Manish Gupta sustained injuries on the face, head and several other parts of the body.

CM today met with family members of Manish Gupta. Yogi assured them that strict action will be taken against accused police officers. On Wednesday, the government announced ₹10 lakh compensation to the family. Earlier in the day, former chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav met the family. Yadav announced ₹20 lakh from SP to the family and demanded ₹2 crore compensation from the government.

Bhaujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati also demands CBI probe in the Gupta’s death case.

Recently there have been complaints of some police officers/personnel indulging in illegal activities. CM Adityanath no longer wants any services from officers directly or indirectly involved in any crimes. CM said, “There should be no place for such people in the police department. Identify such people with proof and provide a list. Action will be taken against all as per rules.”
