Bhajan Lal Sharma Sworn In As Rajasthan CM

Bhajan Lal Sharma, the Chief Minister-designate of Rajasthan, was sworn in as the state’s Chief Minister on Friday. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, appointed as Deputy Chief Ministers in the recent BJP legislature party meeting, also took the oath. Governor Kalraj Mishra administered the oath of office to the trio.

This week, the government unveiled modified editions of three criminal law bills initially presented in August. These updated drafts, incorporating recommendations from a parliamentary panel, aim to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. The updated legislation now mandates a minimum penalty of life imprisonment, while the maximum punishment is death. This adjustment is believed to have been made to equate the consequences for offenses such as mob lynching with those for acts like murder.
