DMK Protests Against Union Budget

The DMK staged protests across Tamil Nadu, accusing the Union Budget of being “discriminatory” towards states that opposed the BJP. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin claimed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget was designed to “take revenge” against states that supported the INDIA alliance. Stalin criticized the budget for lacking funds for Chennai Metro Phase II and other projects. The Finance Minister has denied these allegations.

Akhilesh Yadav has pledged to cancel the Agnipath scheme “as soon as [they]  come to power,” if the Samajwadi Party-led INDIA bloc wins the Lok Sabha elections. Yadav criticized the scheme, stating, “The short-term ‘Agniveer’ military recruitment that compromises the security of the country will be cancelled within 24 hours.” The scheme, launched in 2022, recruits youths on a four-year contract.
