After UK, Germany Extends Coronavirus Lockdown Till January 31

The lockdown was imposed in Germany from November 2 last year. During this time, restaurants, bars and all sports facilities were asked to be shut.

 

The lockdown has been extended with tightening restrictions in Germany amid growing cases of Coronavirus. Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday that the nationwide lockdown is being extended until January 31 to rein in the rising cases. The decision has been taken following the suggestions of the State Governors.

At the same time, the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards to be held in Los Angeles on January 31 have been postponed amid the new wave of Covid-19 in the US. It can now be held on 14 March. More than one lakh new cases are being reported in the US every day.

18.14 lakh cases so far in Germany

The lockdown was imposed in Germany from November 2 last year. During this time, restaurants, bars and all sports facilities were banned. It was extended for the first week of January in the event of Coronavirus cases spreading fast. Social contacts including non-essential shops, schools were banned.

In Germany, more than 11000 cases were reported on Tuesday and 944 people lost their lives. So far, 18.14 lakh people have been infected with Coronavirus. At the same time, more than 36000 people have died due to this.
