Kyiv: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, has termed Russia’s attack on the Ukraine as “brutal” and “unprovoked”. Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid also condemned Russia’s actions and is called it as grave violation of the international order.
While announcing sanctions on Russian individuals and financial institutions, Prime Minister Morrison said, “We denounce what are unilateral hostile actions in Ukraine. Russia is flagrantly breaching international law and the UN Charter. Russia has chosen war.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid also condemned Russia’s actions. Terming the invasion as a “grave violation of the international order,” Lapid said Israel is prepared to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
“Israel is a country well-versed in war. War is not the way to resolve conflicts,” the Israeli Foreign Minister said.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a NATO summit ‘as soon as possible’, a statement issued by the President’s Office said.
The US had also called Russia to cease invasion, and withdraw forces from Ukraine.
On Thursday, the US and its NATO allies held consultations under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty.
“We are deploying additional defensive land and air forces to the eastern part of the alliance, as well as additional maritime assets,” NATO ambassadors said in a statement after emergency talks on Thursday.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said to media that they have brought 100 jets at high alert protecting their air spaces and more than 120 allied ships at sea from north to the Mediterranean. We will do whatever is necessary to shield the alliance from aggression.
Stoltenberg added that NATO leaders will meet tomorrow to chalk out a future strategy.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she has summoned the Russian ambassador to UK to “explain Russia’s illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine”.
Truss added that the UK will be imposing “severe sanctions” and rallying countries in support of Ukraine.
