Donald Trump Permanently Banned From Twitter

The outgoing President then tweeted from the @TeamTrump campaign account, which was also suspended soon by the social media giant.

Removing the outgoing US president from the global service to prevent another attack on the Capitol building, Twitter has shut down Donald Trump’s account permanently on Friday.

The account @realDonaldTrump has often been in the middle of controversy for the US President’s proclamations, accusations and misinformation unchallenged for his entire time in office.

The micro-blogging website, in a blog post explaining its decision, said: “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Twitter had temporarily suspended Trump’s account for 12 hours after violence erupted at the US capitol hill. However, Twitter late Friday blocked efforts by Trump to sidestep the ban.

Donald Trump, taking to the Twitter from the official presidential account @POTUS, accused the company of conspiring with the “Radical Left.” The social network quickly deleted the tweets.

The outgoing President then tweeted from the @TeamTrump campaign account, which was also suspended soon by the social media giant.

Explaining its stand, Twitter told AFP: “Using another account to try to evade a suspension is against our rules.”

“We have taken steps to enforce this with regard to recent Tweets from the @POTUS account.”

The permanent suspension came Friday after a pair of tweets from Trump. In one tweet, Trump vowed that none of his supporters would be “disrespected.” In another, he said he would not attend successor Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, as is customary.

“These two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks,” Twitter said.
