Elon Musk Offers To Buy Twitter, CEO Says Company Not Being Held Hostage

New Delhi: Twitter chief executive officer Parag Agrawal sought to reassure employees during an all-hands meeting on April 14 that the company was not being “held hostage” by news of Tesla chief Elon Musk’s offer to buy the company, reported Reuters.

Elon Musk had earlier said, “I am not playing the back-and-forth game. I have moved straight to the end. It’s a high price and your shareholders will love it”.

“Twitter should open-source its algorithm,” said Elon Musk after hitting headlines with a $43 billion all-cash offer to buy the microblogging site.

Elon Musk said during a TED Talks event that the platform has become kind of the de facto town square.

Musk said that it is very important for there to be an inclusive arena for free speech. Elon Musk added, “It’s just really important that people have both the reality and the perception that they are able to speak freely within the bounds of law.”

“One of the things I believe Twitter should do is open-source the algorithm and make any changes to people’s tweets – if they are emphasized or de-emphasized, that action should be made apparent. So anyone can see that action has been taken,” he said on TED Talks.

Musk said, “So there’s no sort of behind-the-scenes manipulation, either algorithmically or manually.”
