“I Also Participated In Satyagraha For Independence of Bangladesh”: PM Modi In Dhaka

“Involvement in the freedom struggle of Bangladesh is one of the first movements of my life. I must have been 20-22 years old,” PM Modi said In Dhaka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bangladesh on a 2-day tour on Friday. Here he participated in the National Day Program at the National Parade Square in Dhaka. PM Modi in his speech praised the role of Indira Gandhi during the independence of Bangladesh.

In Dhaka, Modi said, “Today is an occasion to remember the vision and ideals of Bangabandhu. It is time for Chirovidrohi to recollect the spirit of the liberation war. There was support for Bangladesh’s liberation struggle from every corner of India, from every party, from every section of society. The efforts of the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhiji and their important role are well known. At the same time, on 6 December 1971, Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji said that we are not only fighting with those who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle, but are also trying to give a new direction to history.”

“I also participated Satyagraha for the independence of Bangladesh”

Prime Minister revealed that he also participated in the movement for Bangladesh’s independence. “Involvement in the freedom struggle of Bangladesh is one of the first movements of my life. I must have been 20-22 years old. I and many of my colleagues had done Satyagraha for the freedom of the people of Bangladesh,” PM Modi said. He said that he was also arrested during the movement and sent to jail. “The heinous crimes and atrocities committed by the Pakistan Army here and the disturbing pictures did not let them sleep for several days.”

Modi said, “I am remembering millions of sons and daughters of Bangladesh today who have endured countless atrocities for their country, language and culture. They put their life at stake. This year marks 50 years of India-Bangladesh friendship. This year of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman is further strengthening the relations between the two countries. Bangabandhu sacrificed his life for Bangladesh and its people. It is a matter of pride for Indians that they had the opportunity to honour the Gandhi Shanti Samman.” While concluding his remarks, Modi said that the friendship between India and Bangladesh is ever-lasting.

Indian soldiers shed blood for Bangladesh’s independence

“Blood of Indian soldiers and Bangladesh soldiers fighting for independence is flowing simultaneously in Bangladesh. This blood will build relationships that will not break under any pressure, which will not fall prey to any diplomacy. Our former President Pranab Mukherjee said that the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman is a symbol of patience and self-control. It is a happy coincidence that 50 years of independence of Bangladesh and 75 years of independence of India have come together. The journey of the next 25 years in the 21st century of both countries is very important. Our heritage is shared, our development is also shared, our goals are also shared and our challenges are also shared,” PM Modi said.
