TestHostEntry

Kolkata | Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Saturday was summoned by a Kolkata Court over his remark of ‘Hindu-Pakistan’.

Shashi Tharoor while delivering a lecture on ‘Threats Faced by Indian Democracy and Secularism’, Tharoor said the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) will create a new constitution which will enshrine the principles of Hindu Rashtra and turn the nation into ‘Hindu Pakistan’ if it is reelected in 2019.

Advocate Sumeet Chowdhury had filed the case alleging Tharoor’s comments had hurt religious sentiments and insulted the Constitution. The court has asked the Congress leader to appear before the court on August 14. A case has been filed under Section 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 2 of The Prevention Of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971.

BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra criticised Tharoor for his views and demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi. “Rahul Gandhi must apologise for what Shashi Tharoor said. Congress was responsible for the creation of Pakistan because of its ambitions yet again it has gone ahead to demean India and defame Hindus of India.” Patra told media.
