Washington: The United States has said that they are in talks with India on stand on Russian invasion on Ukraine, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday, as New Delhi has yet to clearly condemn Moscowโs assault.
Speaking with the reporters Jen said, โWe continue to engage with the Indians.โ
On Thursday when a reporter questioned about the issue, President Joe Biden admitted: โWe havenโt resolved that completely.โ
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an โimmediate cessation of the violenceโ in telephonic talks with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, his office said but he did not explicitly condemn Moscowโs military operation.
India has a close tie with Russia, and major supplier of arms is Moscow to South Asian Nations.
During a UN Security Council Vote on Friday, India abstained over a resolution stating that the group of countries โdeplores in the strongest termsโ Russiaโs โaggressionโ against Ukraine and which would have demanded the immediate withdrawal of its troops.
Despite months of effort by Washington to consolidate its alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, Biden has yet to completely win New Delhi over to his promise of making Putin a โpariah on the international stage.โ
The Biden administration is particularly keen to breathe new life into the so-called diplomatic โQuadโ โ Australia, India, Japan and the United States โ to blunt Chinaโs expanding power in the region.
