Capitol Siege: Tri-Colour At MAGA Protest Gains Attention, Indians Denounce Use Of Flag

BJP MP Varun Gandhi, posting a video where the tri-colour could be noticed, asked why there was an Indian flag being waved.

While Trump supporters barged into US parliament to stay the certification of the electoral college by Congress, the presence of tri-colour flag caught the attention of many Indian users including politicians, who denounced the move.

BJP MP Varun Gandhi, posting a video where the tri-colour could be noticed, asked why there was an Indian flag being waved.

Mr Gandhi tweeted: “Why is there an Indian flag there??? This is one fight we definitely don’t need to participate in…”

Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena Priyanka Chaturvedi also tweeted the video saying the person waving Indian flag among rioters should be ashamed.

“Whoever is waving this Indian flag should feel ashamed. Don’t use our tricolour to participate in such violent & criminal acts in another country,” Ms Chaturvedi said.

Stand-up comic Vir Das was quick to take a jibe at the person waving the flag. Das said: “Dear random Indian dude waving Indian flag at the #CapitolRiots Every large crowd IS NOT A CRICKET MATCH!”

Journalist Sakshi Joshi, posting the video of tri-colour being waved amid the MAGA rally, said she was embarrassed. “Why do I see our Indian flag too in this crowd supporting vandalism? Who is this person holding Indian flag! As an Indian I feel embarrassed on seeing this. We are not a part of this please,” said Ms Joshi.

Another tweeter user, named Advaid, reminded how Indian team was only one of two teams who did not raise their arm to salute Hitler during 1936 Olympic.

“The Indian Olympian contingent was one of only two teams to not raise their arm (Nazi Salute) as they marched past Adolf Hitler during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Defiance. Today the Indian Flag was there along with Confederate & White supremacists flags in #CapitolHill. Shameful,” Advaid wrote.
