“Is There Brutus In Russia?”: US Senator Calls For Putin’s Assassination

Washington: Senior US senator Lindsey Graham, in a televised interview on Thursday, called for “somebody in Russia” to assassinate the President Vladimir Putin, after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking with the Fox News TV host Sean Hannity, the senator said, “How does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate… and take this guy out.”

Later on in a series of tweets, he repeated his calls and said, “the only people who can fix this are the Russian people.”

Referring to one of the Roman rulers Julius Caesar’s assassins, he questions “Is there a Brutus in Russia?”

He wondered the existence of “a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg” in Russian Army, mentioning about a German officer whose bomb failed to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.

“You would be doing your country — and the world — a great service,” he added.

Senator earlier in the day had introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military commanders for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”

Ukraine has said that at least 350 civilians had been killed until now since Putin has launched attack on Ukraine, and over one million have fled the country.

Moscow claims it does not target civilian areas, despite widespread evidence to the contrary.
