Javed Akhtar Wins Richard Dawkins Award 2020, Only Indian To Achieve The Feat

This award is named after the world-renowned biologist Richard Dawkins. It is conferred to those entities who publicly speak about secularism, rationalism and uphold scientific truth.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar was bestowed with Richard Dawkins Award 2020 for critical thinking, holding religious dogma up to scrutiny, advancing human progress, and humanist values. Akhtar is an only Indian so far to be conferred with this award.

Javed Akhtar, apart from being a lyricist and celebrated writer of Indian cinema, has been vocal about multiple issues such as CAA, Tablighi Jamaat, and Islamophobia in India. He has also been critical of Muslim extremism and religious beliefs.

This award is named after the world-renowned biologist Richard Dawkins. It is conferred to those entities who publicly speak about secularism, rationalism and uphold scientific truth. The award was presented by the Atheist Alliance of America up until July 2019 after which it was moved to the Center for Inquiry.
