Multiple Blasts At Rock School In Kabul, At least 4 Killed, 14 injured

According to Afghan security and health officials, three explosions hit a high school in western Kabul on Tuesday, killing numerous people.

Many of the population in the area are members of the Shia Hazara community, an ethnic and religious minority that has been targeted by Sunni extremist groups such as Islamic State.

“Three blasts have taken place … in a high school, there are some casualties to our Shia people,” said Khalid Zadran, the spokesman for Kabul’s commander.

At least four people were killed and 14 others were injured in the blasts, according to the chief of a hospital nursing department, who did not want to be identified.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident, which came after a period of relative calm during the harsh winter months and following the withdrawal of foreign personnel last year.

The Taliban say they have secured the country since taking power in August, but international officials and analysts say that the risk of a resurgence in militancy remains and the Islamic State militant group has claimed several major attacks.
