Pakistan court orders release of former PM Nawaz Sharif, daughter in Avenfield case

Islamabad | The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday ordered the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar Awan in the Avenfield case.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb suspended Sharif and his families sentence due to lack of evidence while hearing the petition challenging the verdict in the Avenfield reference. Announcing the relief for the Sharif family the court has asked them to submit bail bonds worth Rs 0.5 million each.

Earlier in July 2018 while hearing the Avenfield case, the court had awarded the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif a sentence of eleven years, while Maryam Nawaz and his husband was sentenced for eight years and one year respectively. The court had even slapped fine to the Nawaz and Maryan to pay eight million pounds and two million pounds respectively.
