Pakistan PM Imran Khan Gets Tested For Covid-19 After Coming In Contact With Positive Patient

Imran Khan had met Faisal Edhi when he handed over a donation cheque to the Prime Minister at PM’s residence in the national capital.

Islamabad| Imran Khan, the Pakistani Prime minister underwent the test for Covid-19 after he met Edhi Foundation’s Chairman Faisal Edhi, who has tested positive for Covid-19.

Imran Khan had met Faisal Edhi when he handed over a donation cheque to the Prime Minister at PM’s residence in the national capital.

After the meeting, Faisal had tested positive for the virus and was quarantined at his residence in Islamabad. Now, Prime Minister Khan has also been tested to verify whether he has contracted the virus via local transmission.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital doctors took the samples of Khan, results of which are awaited at the current moment.

“I am happy to announce that the prime minister has agreed to get tested for coronavirus on my advice,” said Dr. Faisal Sultan, CEO of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital. Faisal is also the Prime Minister’s personal physician and authorized personnel of Pakistan to deal with Covid-19 outbreak.

It was suspected that there could have been a local transmission to Prime Minister Khan, after Faisal Edhi, son of the renowned philanthropist late Abdul Sattar Edhi, tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Edhi met the Prime Minister on April 15 in Islamabad and handed over a cheque worth Rs 10 million to the government’s corona relief fund.

In a picture of the meeting that went viral after Edhi tested positive, both Edhi and Prime Minister are not wearing any protective gear including masks or hand gloves, which raised the question of local transmission from Edhi to Imran Khan.

Even though the meeting lasted only for 7 minutes, doctors advised the Prime Minister to get tested.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus cases continue to surge in Pakistan as the number nears 10,000 mark.

Till now, 9,749 cases have been reported across Pakistan, out of which 209 people have succumbed to death.
