PM Modi To Attend Quad Leaders Virtual Meeting Amid The Ukraine Crisis

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending Quad Leaders’ virtual meeting on Thursday. The meeting will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, as well. The meeting comes amid the Russian Invasion on Ukraine.

In a press release the Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the leaders will exchange views and assessments about important developments in the Indo-Pacific.

 “The leaders will have an opportunity to continue their dialogue after the September 2021 Summit in Washington DC. They will exchange views and assessments about important developments in the Indo-Pacific,” the press release said.

The ongoing efforts of implementing the leaders’ initiatives announced as part of the Quad’s contemporary and positive agenda, will be reviewed by the Quad Leaders.

In September last year, the Quad leaders held an in-person summit in Washington.

On February 24, Russia has declared a war on Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said “special military operations” were launched to “demilitarisation and denazification” of Ukraine.

On Thursday the Russian invasion of Ukraine entered its eighth day. Ukraine is going through heavy shelling, bombing and street fighting. Since the invasion has started, more that 2,000 civilians have died claims Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. 

Russia is shoving to gain control in the major Ukrainian cities as the country is holding up a defiant stand, and protecting their motherland. From this war zone country, India has started the evacuation of Indian nationals, by roping in the Air Force. Russian forces have taken over the Ukrainian city of Kherson.

The news of the takeover has been confirmed by local officials on Wednesday. Kherson is the first major urban Centre to fall since Moscow invaded a week ago. As per the news agency AFP, the Mariupol, a strategic port on the Sea of Azov, has been surrounded by the Russian Forces.

The United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of Russian withdrawal from Ukraine, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a huge convoy of Russian tanks and armored vehicles headed towards Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Wednesday with the apparent aim of toppling the government and installing a new regime.
