New Delhi| The United Nations Human Rights has expressed “deep concerns” regarding the developing situation in Kashmir. Addressing the media at Geneva, the Human Rights body has expressed fear that the restrictions imposed by the Indian government in Kashmir will further deteriorate the human rights situation in the region. The spokesperson also said that no information flow is also a matter of great concern.
The Centre on Monday imposed Section 144 in Srinagar and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Mobile Internet and Landline communication services have been snapped too. Curfew has also been imposed and security has been beefed up. Many have taken it to social media to complain that they are not able to contact their relatives back in Kashmir.

Talking to the press, UNHC spokesperson said, “What we are witnessing now in Indian-administered Kashmir takes what was already a bit of a pattern to a new level.” He also referred to the UN report published on July 8, 2019, which demanded probe into the alleged human rights violation in the valley.
UNHC slams India:
The report had said that authorities blocked telecommunication network in the region to muzzle dissent, used arbitrary detention to punish political dissidents and deployed excessive force while dealing with protestors. However, the Indian government had registered a strong protest on this report.
He said that we are seeing the telecommunication blockade again. “Perhaps, more blanket than ever, ” he added. “These restrictions will prevent the people of Indian-administered Kashmir and their elected representatives from participating fully in a democratic debate,” he said. The spokesperson also reminded that India has ratified International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

It can be seen that the shops are shut and the security has surrounded them. However, a bunch of Kashmiri locals are seen serving and having lunch with Ajit Doval. The government has maintained that the situation is peaceful in Kashmir and no major act of violence has been reported.

Amidst the concerns over developing a situation in Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today. Reportedly, PM Modi will be giving a radio address today at 4 PM. It is expected that he may reveal the reason behind the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370 from J&K and bifurcate it into two Union territories.
