Singapore Bans Kashmir Files, Says “Have Potential To Cause Enmity”

Singapore: Singapore has banned Bollywood Movie The Kashmir Files. They asserted that it is “beyond” the city-state’s film classification guidelines. According to reports, the Singaporean authorities refused classification of the Hindi-language film. They refused clarification for “its provocative and one-sided portrayal of Muslims and the depictions of Hindus being persecuted in the on-going conflict in Kashmir”.

In India since March, ‘The Kashmir Files’, being screened. The movie is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Muslim-majority Valley in the 1990s due to terrorism.

Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a joint statement in Singapore. 

The film’s representations “have the potential to cause enmity between different communities, and disrupt social cohesion and religious harmony in our multiracial and multi-religious society,” they said.

Under the film classification guidelines, “any material that is denigrating to racial or religious communities in Singapore” will be refused classification.

The Vivek Agnihotri-directed film stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles.

Patna: On Monday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that strict action will be taken against the culprit of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary exam paper leak.

Speaking with media persons in Patna he said, “We took immediate action in the matter. We are checking where and how the paper was leaked. An enquiry has begun. Police are investigating. I have asked them to speed it up. Anyone found involved would be punished.”

His remarks came after the Bihar Lokasewa Commission’s 67th Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination was cancelled. It got cancelled due to paper leaks. The investigation was then transferred to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU).

A three member panel was set up by BPSC chairman RK Mahajan for probing the paper leak. The question papers turned up on social media platforms, just before the exam was scheduled to start at 12 noon.

The panel was given 24 hours time for submitting the first report. After few hours later, the commission announced that the panel has submitted its report and announced the cancellation.

Over six lakh candidates were to give the Bihar Public Service Commission exam on Sunday.
