The US commission expressed its concern over the report of infected patients being segregated in Ahmedabad’s government hospital on the basis of religion.
New Delhi| US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) was slammed by the Indian government on Thursday for its criticism of country referring to a “misguided” report of Covid-19 patients being segregated in Ahmedabad’s hospital on the basis of religion.
The US commissioned had expressed its concern over India’s handling of Covid-19 crisis based on a report that stated the infected patients were segregated in Ahmedabad’s government hospital on the basis of religion.
“As if its peremptory commentary on religious freedom in India is not enough, the USCIRF is now spreading misguided reports on the professional medical protocols followed to deal with the spread of COVID-19 in India,” Anurag Srivastava, the MEA spokesperson said.
He stressed that no segregation of patients has been done in civil hospital on the basis of religion as earlier clarified by the Gujarat Government.
He further added, “The USCIRF must stop adding religious colour to our national goal of fighting the pandemic and distract from larger efforts.”
The commission, earlier in its tweet, had said that it was concerned over the reports of Hindu and Muslim patients being separated in hospital.
“Such actions only help to further increase ongoing stigmatization of Muslims in #India and exacerbate false rumors of Muslims spreading #COVID19,” the commission had said.
The USCIRF had attacked the Indian government in a similar manner on the issue of the newly amended Citizenship Law (CAA).
