Taliban Claim They Have Captured Panjshir, Resistance Denies Claim

Celebratory gunfire was observed in the capital city Kabul on Friday night and social media platforms were full of mentions of the fall of Panjshir.

According to a report by news agency Reuters, three Taliban sources confirmed that the Terror group had conquered the Panjshir valley north od Kabul, the only province which was not under the control of Taliban. However, a resistance leader denied the claim made by Taliban.

“By the grace of Allah Almighty, we are in control of the entire Afghanistan. The troublemakers have been defeated and Panjshir is now under our command,” said one Taliban commander.

Celebratory gunfire was observed in the capital city Kabul on Friday night and social media platforms were full of mentions of the fall of Panjshir.

There has been no confirmation on whether the claim by the Taliban is true. However, if true, it would give the Taliban complete control of Afghanistan, something they did not achieve when they first ruled the country between 1996 and 2001.

Contradicting the Taliban claim, Amrullah Saleh, the former Vice President in Ghani government and one of the leaders of the resistance, said his side had not given up.

In a video clip posted to Twitter by a BBC World journalist, Mr Saleh said: “There is no doubt we are in a difficult situation. We are under invasion by the Taliban.”

“We have held the ground, we have resisted.”
