New Delhi: According to the Pentagon reports, Iran has fired more a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi bases housing U.S. forces in retaliation for General Qassem Soleimani’s death last week.
On Wednesday Ain al-Asad base in Anbar province and a base in Erbil were both hits on following the continuous tension between Iran and the U.S. in what could turn out to be a major war that may not be able to be contained solely to the Middle East.
Iran’s missile attacks on US targets in Iraq were the first step and Tehran will not spare American troops, Iranian state TV quoted a Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the commander said.
“The missile attacks today were just the first step (US President Donald) should think about withdrawing its troops from the region and not leave them within our reach,” Iranian state TV quoted the commander as saying while keeping him anonymous.
Iranian telecommunication minister Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi sent out a tweet that leaves nothing to be misunderstood about the attack.
President Donald Trump has yet to respond publicly in any way. But former Vice President and 2020 frontrunner Joe Biden refused to speak on the conflict at this time.
While, the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) is planning to ban U.S. carriers from operating n the airspace over Iraq, Iran, the Gulf of Oman and the waters between Iran and Saudi Arabia after the attack.
It is not clear whether President Trump will retaliate as he tweeted earlier this week, but any further escalation in this conflict can almost guarantee an all-out war that could arguably spread around the world.
