A 19-year-old woman, who was allegedly sexually abused and tortured by her live-in partner at her house in Kochi, succumbed to her injuries on Friday. The woman, a POCSO case survivor, had met with the accused on a social media platform a year ago, according to the police.
The woman was brought to hospital last Sunday after she was found injured and unconscious at her house. The Police has arrested 24-year-old V Anoop, a native of Kottayam on Monday. According to police, Anoop, a drug addict, has earlier been named in multiple peddling cases.
“The woman and the accused were in a live-in relationship. Anoop was suspicious about the woman speaking to others. As per his statement, last Saturday night, he got angry over the woman not attending his calls. After reaching the house, he tortured her continuously, following which she tried to kill herself. When she was hanging by a shawl, Anoop brought her down, but did not try to save her,’’ an officer was quoted saying by the Indian Express.
