Akshay Kumar to contest on BJP ticket from Punjab’s Gurdaspur?

New Delhi | Bollywood Actor Akshay Kumar is rumoured to be contesting the Lok Sabha election from Punjab’s Gurdaspur constituency for BJP ticket.

The Bhartiya Janata Party want to bank on Bollywood celebrities for electoral again in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Earlier veteran age actress Jaya Prada, Bhojpuri actors Ravi Kisan and Dinesh Lal Yadav also joined BJP and will be contesting from Rampur, Gorakhpur and Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh respectively.

The rumours triggered about Akshay Kumar’s candidature after he tweeted,” Getting into an unknown and uncharted territory today. Doing something I have never done before. Excited and nervous both. Stay tuned for updates.”

Earlier rumours of Actor Sunny Deol to contest from the same Gurdaspur seat also triggered when he meet BJP president Amit Shah in Pune. Deol’s mother Hema Malini is a sitting MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura and is again contesting from the same seat. While his father Dharmendra was BJP MP from Rajasthan’s Bikaner in 2004.

Gurdaspur is an important seat for the BJP-Akali Dal coalition in Punjab as veteran actor Vinod Khanna got elected on the same seat in 1998, 1999,2004, 2014 general election. After his death, the seat went to Congress’ Sunil Jhakkar in 2017 by polls.
