EC rejects Tej Bahadur Yadav’s nomination from Varanasi constituency

Varanasi | The Election commission today rejected the nomination of Samajwadi Party candidate and former BSF soldier Tej Bahadur Yadav from Varanasi constituency.

Speaking on his nomination being cancelled Yadav said,”My nomination has been rejected wrongly. I was asked to produce the evidence at 6.15pm yesterday, we produced the evidence, still my nomination was rejected. We will go to the Supreme Court.”

Earlier the Samajwadi party in a major move dropped its candidate Shalini Yadav on the Varanasi lok sabha constituency against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and replaced her with Tej Bahadur, a BSF jawan who was sacked for complaining about the food served to the troops in Indian Army. The former jawan had earlier planned to contest the election as an independent candidate.

Earlier in March, the sacked jawan had first expressed to take on Prime MInister Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency.
Back in 2017, a video featuring Tej Bahadur in army uniform went viral after he alleged that poor quality food was being served to security forces serving at the border. He was then serving as a BSF constable near Line of Control in Poonch district. (
The jawan was dismissed from service after he was found guilty of violating the SOP (standard operating procedure) . The charges against him included carrying two mobile phones while on active duty and posting his photographs in uniform on social media.
