FIR registered against Azam Khan over ‘Khaki underwear’ remark

New Delhi | An First Information Report or FIR is registered against Samajwadi Party leader and candidate from the Rampur Lok Sabha constituency Azam Khan over his controversial ‘Khanki underwear’ remark against BJP candidate and his arch-rival Jaya Prada.

Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh Rampur during his election campaign, Azam Khan was caught on camera saying,” People of Rampur, people of Uttar Pradesh and people of India, it took you 17 years to understand her reality. But, I could recognize it in 17 days that she wears a khaki underwear.” The video of Khan’s purported speech was also doing the rounds on various social media platform.

Responding to the remark, Jaya Prada speaking to media,” It isn’t new for me, you might remember that I was a candidate from his party in’09 when no one supported me after he made comments against me.I’m a woman&I can’t even repeat what he said. I don’t know what I did to him that he is saying such things.”

Prada further demanded that Azam Khan should not be allowed to contest the election. Speaking to News Agency ANI, Jaya Prada said, “He shouldn’t be allowed to contest elections. Because if this man wins, what will happen to democracy? There’ll be no place for women in society. Where will we go? Should I die, then you’ll be satisfied? You think that I’ll get scared & leave Rampur? But I won’t leave.”

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has also sent a notice to Samajwadi Party leader for his remark. Rekha Sharma NCW chairperson speaking on the remark said,” He’s always talking dirty about women and in this election, it’s the 2nd remark he gave against woman politician. NCW has taken suo-motu cognizance&we’re sending him notice.”

Sharma further added that the NCW will be writing to the Election commission demanding strict action against Khan. She said, “We are also writing to EC to take strict action against him because he has to learn this lesson now. It’s high time, he has to stop this. Women are not sex objects. I think, women voters should vote against such kind of people who are treating women in such way.”

Meanwhile clarifying his remark, Azam Khan said, I was referring to a person in Delhi who is unwell, who had said, ‘I came with 150 rifles&I would have shot Azam if I had seen him.’ Talking about him, I said, ‘it took a long time to know ppl & later it was found that he was wearing RSS shorts.’

Khan further added that the remark was not for Jaya Prada as he didn’t name anyone in his statement and if found guilty he won’t be contesting the election. He said,” I haven’t named anyone. I know what I should say. If anyone can prove that I named anyone anywhere&insulted anyone, then I’ll not contest election.”
