Maoists trigger blast in BJP election office in J’khand

Medininagar: Suspected Maoists on Friday triggered a blast in an election office of the BJP at Hariharganj area of Palamu district, knocking down a part of its wall, a police officer said.

Nobody was present inside the election office during the incident, he said.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that armed rebels came on motorcycles around midnight, planted a bomb inside the party’s office and triggered the blast,” Chhatarpur Sub- divisional Police Officer Shambhu Kumar Singh said.

Several Maoist pamphlets, calling for poll boycott in the region, have been found lying at the blast site, he said.

Palamu district is a part of Palamu (SC) Lok Sabha constituency, which is set to go to polls on April 29, along with Lohardaga (ST) and Chatra seats.

The job cuts in Twitter left it with just about a dozen staff members on board, people familiar with the matter said

New Delhi: Elon Musk is in the headlines since he took over Twitter. The social media giant has laid off many employees in recent times. Over the weekend, Twitter fired more than 90% of its India staff. The firing of employees is a part of global reductions by new owner Elon Musk and is severely depleting its engineering and product staff in a potential growth market.

The company had just employed over 200 people in India. The cuts left it with just about a dozen staff members on board, people familiar with the matter said.

India is an important growth engine for global internet companies like Twitter, Meta Platforms Inc., and Alphabet Inc.’s Google, which rely on its vast potential pool of new online users. However, the companies are also subject to more stringent content laws aimed at limiting the country’s large digital firms.

Among the fired employees, about 70% of them are from the product and engineering team. The teams’ majorly worked on a global mandate, one of the people said. People from marketing, public policy, and corporate communications departments were fired too, they said. Globally, San Francisco, California-based Twitter has fired roughly 3,700 employees.

On Twitter, India has one of the most heated political debates. Rival parties frequently hurl accusations at each other and accuse each other of spreading misinformation. On Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has over 84 million followers. It’s unclear how Twitter plans to manage that debate with its newly decreased employees in the country, which speaks more than 100 languages.

In India Twitter’s headquarter is in Delhi. Globally the platform has over 3,500 employees.
