In a fire at a chemical factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, 9 people have died, reports said. With police and fire-engines rushing to the location, rescue operations are in process.
The fire erupted at an industrial facility in Dhaulana, around 60 kilometres from New Delhi, after a boiler accident, police spokesman Surendra Singh told Reuters.
Medha Roopam, District Magistrate of Hapur, said nine people had died while 19 others were injured and undergoing treatment.
According to officials, the factory is located adjacent to a CNG pump. Rescue and relief measures were taken up at the site.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took to Twitter to express anguish over the incident.
“The accident in the chemical factory of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh is heart-wrenching. I express my condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this. The state government is actively involved in providing treatment to the injured and all possible help,” PM Modi wrote in his tweet.
Meanwhile, CM Adityanath directed that the incident be probed by experts.
The UP CM, in a statement, asked the district administration to extend all possible help to the families of the victims. Necessary treatment should be provided to the injured, he added.
