AAP To Announce Chief Ministerial Candidate On January 18

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has stated that for the Punjab Assembly Polls they will be announcing the name of the Chief Ministerial Candidate on January 18. Their decision was taken with a twist this time. On January 13 the party had said that the people will choose their Chief Ministerial candidate, on the basis of tele-voting. The party has asked voters to dial 7074870748 to name their choice. The announcement will be made tomorrow around noon.

More than 15 lakh people have responded to an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) survey, asking them to choose a candidate from the party who could become its chief ministerial face for the February 14 Punjab polls.

“In the last 72 hours, more than 15 lakh people have responded to the phone number released by the AAP to choose the party’s chief ministerial face in Punjab,” said AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

Cheema said that during the last 72 hours, more than 5.5 lakh WhatsApp messages, more than 6.7 lakh phone calls, over 1.5 lakh text messages and more than 1.5 lakh voice messages have been received on the party’s number.

“The party will announce its CM candidate after collecting and compiling the entire data,” Cheema said. Cheema further said that the people have made up their minds to wipe out traditional parties and added that the AAP will form the next government.

Kejriwal had ruled himself out of the race as the AAP launched its “Janta Chunegi Apna CM” drive and said the name of the candidate for the top post would be announced after getting the feedback of people. This was the first time party asked people to choose their CM.

A mobile number was launched by the party on which people could give their opinion till 5 pm on January 17 by recording their voice and sending text or WhatsApp messages as to who should be the party’s chief ministerial candidate.
